This is a pathological condition in which the normal balance of bone resorption and renewal is disturbed. It is characterized by a conserved osteoclast activity (the cells that break down bone), and a reduced osteoblastic activity (the cells that build bone).
Causes may be genetic, nutritional, calcium deficiency, endocrine diseases, postmenopausal hormonal causes (PTH, CT, vitamin D, estrogen).
There is pain occuring in the lumbar and thoracic part, impaired fatigue, muscle cramps, paravertebral muscle tension, and it can also lead to spontaneous fractures.
The person gets the impression of shrinking – wardrobe becomes larger.
